What is a dental implant?

The design of a dental Implant is based on the design of a natural tooth that comprises a crown and root.

An artificial crown is individually made from ceramic with great care and is attached to the dental implant via an abutment.

The implant

The implant replaces the function of a natural root and, properly cared for should last a lifetime. The implant, made from Titanium, fuses to the surrounding bone during the healing period following placement. This is a process called osseointegration.

Putting in dental implants

Missing a single tooth?

A single implant will support a single crown and is the ideal solution when compared to conventional alternatives. The treatment is simple and the procedures are very minor when carried out by a well trained and experienced clinician.

In some cases it is possible to remove a failed tooth, place an implant and build a tooth directly onto the implant all within a single appointment.

Several teeth missing?

A fixed implant bridge involves the placement of two or more dental implants to replace three or more missing teeth. The implants provide stability and offer the benefit of not damaging or contacting the adjacent natural teeth. A bridge is made that attaches to the implants via abutments.

Missing all of your teeth?

You only need 4-6 implants to support a bridge to replace all the missing teeth. Such a bridge will provide excellent strength, function and appearance.

Dental implants will provide you with a stable and long term solution can eliminate the pain, discomfort, instability, and bone loss that denture patients experience. Bridges can be made to feel permanent by being screwed in place, or may be removable.

A very cost-effective alternative is to have a denture that you can remove but is held very securely by two implants and press-stud like attachments.

Alternative options to dental implants.

Where do I go, who do I see and what will it cost?

Successful dental implant treatment depends on skilled care, maintenance and follow up. Here at the Meredith Clinic you can be sure of the highest quality of treatment provided by experienced specialist clinicians who have been placing and restoring implants for over 25 years.

Treatment planning, surgery, and restoration is carried out by a single clinician.

Treatment needn’t be expensive and there may be many options with careful diagnosis and treatment planning.

People see treatment overseas as a less expensive option. However, poor quality components unavailable in Australia, a lack of proper training and rushed treatment create significant complications.

Training, experience and competence are essential in dental implant treatment. Ensure your clinical has the appropriate, training, qualifications and experience.
